Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Review

Redmi Note 7

Build and Design

One of the first similarities we noticed between the Redmi Note 7 and the Mi Play was from the front. It has a small notch at the top for the selfie camera and noticeable bezels, particularly at the bottom. The earpiece is above the selfie camera, and the notification LED is hidden near the bottom chin.
The power/lock and volume buttons are on the right.
The hybrid SIM tray on the left accepts nano-sized SIM cards as well as a micro SD card.
The IR blaster, a 3.5mm audio port, and a microphone are located on top.
The main microphone, loudspeaker, and USB-C port are located on the bottom.
Flip it over to expose the protruding dual-rear cameras, LED flash, and fingerprint scanner in the center. From this angle, we can't help but notice a resemblance to the Huawei Nova 3i.
The Redmi Note 7 is an eye-catching phone. It's a tall device, thanks to its 6.3-inch screen, but it's narrow enough to be held comfortably with one hand.
It also feels great due to the rounded frame with a metallic finish and glass back. It's 8.1mm thick and 186g heavy, but that's understandable given the large 4,000mAh battery.

Display
The Redmi Note 7 has a 6.3-inch IPS screen with a Full HD+ (2340 x 1080) resolution and a pixel density of 409ppi. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 is mounted on top of it. It's a good display with rich colors, good viewing angles, and enough brightness for outdoor use. The option to hide the notch, on the other hand, is missing. When watching videos or playing games, however, this is not an issue because the content is displayed with a border.
When it comes to audio, the Redmi Note 7 is nothing special, sounding like any other smartphone speaker. It's clear and loud, but it lacks bass. It's sufficient for casual listening and hands-free phone calls. If you want to improve your listening experience, we recommend connecting it to an external speaker or your favorite headphones so you can use its Mi Sound Enhancer.

Software
The Redmi Note 7 is powered by MIUI 10, a customized version of Android 9 Pie. Because we're using a Global ROM model, Google services and an English-language keyboard and interface are preinstalled, so setup is as simple as it is on any Android phone.
Most Google apps are available in Xiaomi's version, which means there is some duplication, and most cannot be deleted (or removed from the app tray-less home screen, though you can tuck them away in a folder where they will remain out of sight and out of mind). This is understandable given that Chinese ROM MIUI devices lack those Google apps. However, some of these apps are quite good, so use them or don't - there's enough storage that you don't need to worry about them.
We previously mentioned that the Redmi Note 7 lacks the Mi 9 family's Dark Mode and Ambient Display. In other ways, the software is nearly identical, and there are some great extras found only on Xiaomi phones, such as Dual Apps and Second Space.
The recent menu also includes a Split-screen mode, which can be accessed via an onscreen button or by swiping from the bottom of the screen and then pausing before lifting your finger in the gesture-only Full Display mode.
While the notification LED is so small that you're likely to miss it, you do get individual app control over which apps are allowed to display notifications on the lock screen or float at the top of the screen, so only the most important will be allowed to distract you. However, navigating the settings may not be immediately obvious.
